In November 1911, William C. “Billy” Durant launched Chevrolet Motor Company, named after his partner, Swiss race car driver Louis Chevrolet. On May 2, 1918, General Motors acquired Chevrolet Motor Company, and in 2021, the iconic brand is celebrating its 110th anniversary.
Chevrolet is one of the world’s largest car brands with more than 3.2 million cars and trucks sold in 2020 in 79 countries. In the U.S., GM assembly plants are currently home to 12 different Chevrolet models. Across the country, our outstanding manufacturing teams work to bring these vehicles to life:
After 110 years and millions and millions of vehicles later, Chevrolet has become one of the most recognizable brands in the world. Chevrolet provides customers with efficient vehicles that feature engaging performance, design that makes the heart beat, available built-in systems that help promote safe driving like Teen Driver, OnStar services, and a suite of available and easy-to-use technology, like Rear Seat Reminder1.
In addition to being one of the world’s largest car brands, Chevrolet has also demonstrated a commitment to communities through cause marketing and emergency relief and preparedness.
Chevrolet supports organizations around the country focused on helping people. Organizations like the American Cancer Society®, helping make strides against all forms of cancer2, through volunteerism and donations to benefit breast cancer screening, patient care and research. Chevrolet is also committed to youth sports - from sponsoring instructional clinics and contributing equipment to refurbishing fields and providing uniforms. The brand also honors active service members, veterans and their families by working with organizations that help to build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive in the communities they have worked so hard to protect. In August 2021, Chevrolet worked with well-known automotive influencer and content creator Emelia Hartford to host its second annual Cruisin’ the USA in Your Chevrolet week-long virtual fan experience. The experience featured some of the most talented leaders who have shaped and determined Chevrolet’s future and provided a unique opportunity for loyal fans to engage with and commemorate the brand.
Emelia gave fans a tour of two impressive garages, owned by die-hard Chevrolet fans. Pinky Randall, also known as Mr. Chevy, showcased his impressive lineup of vintage Chevrolets, and former Camaro Engineering Chief, Al Oppenheiser, was more than happy to share his lineup.
As Chevrolet blazes new trails 110 years after its inception, the brand is helping to transform the automobile to complement the needs of evolving societies and changing resources – all with its iconic style, performance, and value.
