At GM, we want to put everyone in an EV, and we believe we’re the best company to do it. To reach our all-electric future, we understand the importance of creating opportunities for current and future employees to join us on our journey. That’s why we launched the Automotive Manufacturing Electrical College (AMEC) to train current and future employees to work on fast-evolving electrical systems in future GM vehicles.
The future of EVs doesn’t only rely on facilities capable of producing battery-powered vehicles. Manufacturing also needs skilled employees who can keep up with the ever-changing complexity of electric vehicle systems. That’s where AMEC comes in. The goal is to equip participants with the technical skills needed to perform electrical-based job duties – all before they reach the floor of a manufacturing site.
“One of GM’s top priorities is to train and develop technical leaders to deliver a quality vehicle every single time to our customers. The Electrical College is an immersive learning experience that does just that.”
- Jason Garrison, AMEC co-founder and electrical integration and training supervisor
AMEC students receive an immersive education in completing electrical processes – including schematics, diagnostics, vehicle wiring harness assembly and more – in the classroom and through hands-on training at GM’s Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. Participants spend six to 12 months training before transitioning into a plant launch role at one of GM’s assembly facilities – like Wentzville Assembly, which currently builds Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size trucks.
Participants in the program are paid a full salary during the training period, and each role is specific to one of GM's assembly plants.
Participants in the program receive a full range of benefits, including health care, retirement savings and GM Family First vehicle discounts. AMEC is currently accepting applications for numerous full-time salaried positions and while experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus, no prior electrical experience is necessary.
