Electrification
General Motors is committed to an all-electric, zero-emissions future. Electric vehicle (EVs) are a key part of this vision, and there are common misconceptions about costs, charging needs and at-home charging stations.
We’re breaking down these charging myths to celebrate our new partnership with Qmerit, something that will help current and future Chevrolet Bolt EV owners connect with pre-approved, experienced at-home charging station installers. The tool will allow EV owners to obtain and compare up to three competitive quotes – all from the Chevy Charging webpage.
FACT: The average daily roundtrip for an American commuter is 40 miles. With an EPA-estimated 238 miles of range on a single charge,* most Chevy Bolt EV owners can get through the day – perhaps even three or four days – without needing to plug in. Waiting for your car to charge may seem time intensive and daunting, but most cars sit idle for 95% of the day, leaving plenty of time to charge while at work or home – the two most common places to charge your car. With a 240-volt home charging station, the Bolt EV can regain up to 25 miles per hour of charge. Starting a charging session only takes a few seconds on your end – just plug in and walk away!
*Your actual range will vary based on several factors, including temperature, terrain, battery age and how you use and maintain your vehicle.
GM is partnering with Qmerit to create a more accessible at-home charging solution.
FACT: Switching to an EV becomes more cost efficient over time. Under the hood, EVs are different than internal combustion vehicles and require less maintenance, as there are fewer moving parts that need to be regularly inspected or changed, such as belts and engine oil. Compared with an average new vehicle of the same size, the EPA estimates that the Bolt EV could save an owner about $70 per month in fuel costs.
To save more money, Bolt EV owners can use Programmable Charging, including Electric Rate Preference, to start and end their charging session during off-peak hours when power is less expensive. General Motors is working with utilities to simplify the use of its smart charging functionality, saving customers energy and money by optimizing charging to occur when it is best for the electrical grid.
FACT: With General Motors’ new partnership with Qmerit, getting an EV charging station installed in your home has never been easier! Consumers can visit Chevrolet.com, complete the questionnaire, and get up to three quick and accurate competitive quotes. All electricians are Qmerit-approved and vetted ahead of time.
