Spring Hill Assembly recently celebrated the beginning of retail production1 of the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ2. The Cadillac LYRIQ is the product of our $2 billion October 2020 investment in upgrades to Spring Hill Assembly, a dedicated production team and a model for how we will bring our all-electric vision to reality. The milestone was commemorated on Monday, March 21 by the many employees and stakeholders who contributed to this moment.
“The Cadillac LYRIQ sets the standard for the future of Cadillac and marks another major milestone in GM’s commitment to an all-electric future,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “This is a monumental day for the entire GM team. We retooled Spring Hill Assembly with the best, most advanced technology in the world and the team worked tirelessly to complete the preparations nine months ahead of original schedule.”
The energy and excitement was electric as the Cadillac LYRIQ rolled off the line in front of employees and invited guests. The hard work, commitment and manufacturing excellence of our Spring Hill team has allowed us to accelerate the Cadillac LYRIQ retail production launch nine months ahead of schedule, while the team continued to assemble1 the Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6 and GMC Acadia with world class quality.
GM is the first American Automaker to build electric vehicles in Tennessee and our production team displayed the true Tennessee volunteer spirit while learning to manufacture the all-electric vehicles. Upgrades to the assembly included new machines, conveyers, controls and tooling, all requiring enhanced or additional skillsets to meet EV production. Spring Hill Assembly serves as a model for how we will transition other assembly operations for EV production.
“I’m so excited to be a part of this introduction and help make history, I’m ready to go!” said Monica Longuemire, Spring Hill Launch Team Member. “Vehicles like the Cadillac LYRIQ mean my children can someday live in a world with zero pollution.”

The LYRIQ is Cadillac’s first all-electric vehicle and is built on the Ultium Platform, our new modular system housing Ultium batteries. In early 2021, we announced a joint venture with LG Energy Solution to build a second Ultium Cells LLC battery plant in Spring Hill, which is currently under construction and slated to be in operation by late 2023.
“General Motors has continued to invest in Tennessee and strengthen our state’s position as a national hub for the automotive industry. We are proud to work with this global company as they advance in the electric vehicle evolution, launching the company’s first Cadillac LYRIQ from Spring Hill, Tennessee.”
- Bob Rolfe, Tennessee commissioner of Community and Economic Development
As Spring Hill embarks on its path of building the future with the Cadillac LYRIQ, we are taking the same approach within the community. Our Spring Hill team has strong ties with local schools, sponsoring STEM programs like “All Girls Auto Know” at Spring Hill Middle School and the STEM Engineering Program at Spring Hill High School. Support for local schools and programs that help students dream big and work hard are the steppingstones for building the next generation of future designers, engineers and production workers. Ten talented and enthusiastic middle school and high school students from Spring Hill, along with four college students involved in the EcoCar Mobility Challenge attended the celebration and got a glimpse into the practical applications of their coursework. The students had an opportunity to tour the facility and meet with GM President Mark Reuss.
“Having a chance to sit in the LYRIQ was awesome! You can see the attention to detail, the coding and the processes that make it beautiful,” said Spring Hill High School student, MaryJayne Pederson. “The triangle patterns make it look slick!”
“As a third generation General Motors employee, I found it very important to expose my oldest son to the manufacturing world. Michael is currently pursuing engineering and I would love to have him dive into the electrical world as it rapidly expands. It was a great opportunity for Michael to come see the arrival of Spring Hill’s first electric vehicle and the complexities of engine assembly. Michael is grateful for the experience and hopes to be a part of the automotive world.” – Brian Costantino, UAW Communications, Spring Hill Manufacturing
