Steve J. Hill was appointed Senior Vice President and President, GM China, in June 2024. Based in Shanghai, Steve oversees all of GM’s operations in China.

Prior to his move to China, Steve was Vice President, Global Commercial Operations, leading cross-brand activities that strengthened our brands and position in the U.S. He also helped with the assessment and commercialization of future business opportunities that support GM’s revenue growth commitments.

Steve began his career with General Motors in 1983 as a District Sales Manager at Cadillac Motor Car Division.

Throughout his career he has held numerous sales and marketing positions of increasing responsibility for GM. These roles included U.S. Vice President of Chevrolet and GM Fleet; Vice President of U.S. Sales, Service and Marketing for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC brands as well as Fleet & Commercial Operations and Sales & Marketing Retail Support; Vice President of Customer Care and Aftersales; Vice President of Cadillac, U.S. Sales, Service & Marketing; General Manager of Retail Sales Programs; Regional Director of North Central Region; Executive Director of Retail Planning and CRM Marketing; Dealer Network and Sales Promotion as well as extensive field experience.

Steve is a graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a graduate of Wayne State University, where he earned his MBA. In addition, he has completed Executive Development programs at Harvard, Wharton, and Stanford Universities.

Steve has also served as the Executive Champion of the Veterans Group of General Motors for the past twelve years. The group is focused on recruiting veterans, promoting General Motors vehicles, and raising millions of dollars for charities that support wounded veterans.
